The recommendation from Apple is to use /etc/launchd-user.conf, with a line containing umask nnn. However, a user can then set their own umask using ~/.launchd.conf. The umask can also be defined in /etc/launchd.conf, but that sets it for all processes including system daemons which can potentially cause unexpected results.

We started this chapter with securing accounts using graphical tools such as the Accounts System Preferences. Once we looked at the options available through graphical means, we switched gears and started looking at those available only from the command line (such as visudo). You ll notice that the granularity of control over accounts goes far beyond that which has been provided in those Preference panes. The heart of any IBF solution is the metadata project. The metadata project binds the web services, user interface, and Office task pane together to form a complete solution. The first time you create a solution, you will undoubtedly find the process cryptic and hard to follow. The key, however, is to develop a strong understanding of the metadata elements and how they are used by IBF. Follow these steps to create the metadata project: 1. Select File Add Project New Project from the menu 2. In the Add New Project dialog, select Information Bridge Metadata Projects from the Project Types list. 3. Select Metadata from the Templates list. 4. Name the new project IBFPubsMetadata. 5. Click the OK button to add the new project to the solution. 6. When the new project is created, right-click the project in the solution explorer and select Set As StartUp Project from the context menu.
